Not really sure if you ‘ve heard this one as a webmaster, getting listed on dmoz is a huge thing. Me my self still thinking that sufficient amount of traffics and a great pagerank is what advertisers looking for in our website. I stumbled upon some resources and getting lost in the depth of dmoz directory listings. Just trying to deny this so call getting-listed-on-dmoz-is-a-huge-thing opinion. You know what I found? The more I dig deeper, the more I found the connection between getting listed on dmoz and higher pagerank result.
How Could It Be?
Read my post about a simple calculation on “How many backlinks you need to get certain PageRank” yet? It ‘s not exact, but based on my own research, to my own sites, it’s pretty close. Say if you need to get pagerank 3, you need 1 backlink from a PR5 site or 3 backlinks from a PR4 sites. Yup it happened, as soon as one of my site got 3 or more PR4 backlinks, it raised to PR3 by the next PR update. So, with this same simple calculation, getting listed on dmoz is another way to get backlink from it. The more higher PR you get from dmoz, the more higher PR you ‘ll get.
Getting listed on dmoz is a must. It really is a Huge thing.
So, I got this european webmaster buddy ask me about dmoz, and he aksed if his casino sites – he ‘s developing some gaming resources sites – could be listed on dmoz just exactly like some usa casino sites got listed on usa casinos dmoz list. As he ‘ve seen us online casinos list for usa players site is there. Is it possible for his sites?
I say, it definitely is possible. So here I present you, 7 ways to get your site listed on DMOZ listing. Casino sites? No exceptions for it. Just read on carefully, do it properly, wait patiently, you ‘ll got listed for sure. Here we go..
1. Proper Category.
It ‘s the 1st Rule of the most of all. Submitting to the proper category. Most of the submitted sites are rejected just simply having it submitted to WRONG categories. It ‘s a basic thingy. DUH.. you can’t have your DVD store site listed on a Cooking Appetizer category.
Dmoz is edited by human like me and you. If you ‘re the editor of the Cooking category, and found there ‘s a DVD store site submitted to this category, what would you do? Me? I ‘d say DUH! and hit delete button.
So, find the most relevant category for your site, and submit it.
2. Quality and Original Content.
To maintain the listed sites is the most relevant sites to users search query, quality and original content is a must. People got sick and annoyed of sites with just some bunch of affiliate links and stuffed with sales letters. They got into this directories from the first place looking for some resources to answer their needs. Editors have this responsibility to answer that kinda need. So if your site doesn ‘t really has some quality and original contents, not a chance you ‘ll got listed on dmoz.
3. Contact information.
Write that down, clearly, on your site. And YES, just an email address is NOT enough. A clearly stated contact information such address and phone number always means trust, not to mention if you running a business website such e-commerce or shopping website. Editors reject submitted sites so many times just because the don ‘t find any physical contact details on the sites. So it’s pretty much necessary to put them on your site.
4. Meta tags, it Matters.
Yeah, it matters. Editors look this meta description if you write great and accurately-keyword-rich description. There ‘s this real chance, it will be used as you ‘ve originally wrote it. Don’t stuff it with just some keywords. If it (your site) is accepted, editors will definitely change it with some accurate descriptions. You keywords stuffing is a dead end here.
5. Professionally Designed.
It ‘s for a good impression purposes. You ‘ve got your big chance already if your site is all about those First 3 above. Will definitely give your site more credibility if it ‘s professionally designed. Remember, Dmoz editor is human. So “Gosh-this-site-is-freakinly-cool” impression would always means a plus for your site.
6. Broken Links and Spelling Errors.
Avoid ‘em. Check on ‘em and fix ‘em. Editors would got annoyed by some friggin broken links and spelling errors. IF they ‘ve got enough of it from your site, hitting the rejected button for your site submission is just a matter of time. So once again I repeat, Check on ‘em and fix ‘em.
7. Don ‘t Stop, if It Got Listed
So yours got listed already? Are you done? Nope, don’t just stop. Not just yet. If you have other pages within your site optimized for certain keywords, look for another category that fit for those, and submit it. The more pages listed on dmoz, the more chances visitor would come to your site from search engine result through dmoz list.
Kinda long way to go. But it absolutely worth the efforts.
