Electronic Shopping Tips

Last night, i was hanging out with some friend in a coffeeshop, while preparing some stuff on my laptop for my next design project. We talked about alot of stuff, like today’s website design trends, programming stuff, latest gadgets, etc. Then a friend of mine asked me some advice about how to shop wisely on our gadget stuff. Because recently, his teenage sister is developing a not-so-good shopping habit on her gadget needs. Well, i laughed when i heard that. Not that i’m making fun of him and his situation, but i found it funny that my sister did too. As a youngster, we might find that some gadgets are a-must-have, though we will have to reach deeper on our wallet or even worse it will break our pocket apart. And for some people, buying the latest version of a gadget is like a matter life and death. Don’t care if that latest version is just an original stuff with a facelift. All of us would agree that gadgets and electronic stuff shopping can be a fun adventure, but also can become a total disaster IF we did it without a good preparation or self-knowledge on how to shop wisely. So here are some nice tips on it.

  • Do your research

When you plan on buying something, not only on gadgets and electronic stuff, be sure to check out all of the information about it. You can search some comparative review or a price guide on the web. It will help you alot. And hey, you might find a similar product on other brand but much cheaper. This method is very good for you guys if your original plan was to buy cheap electronics or other stuff.

  • Budget Wisely

Don’t squeeze your pocket to dry on a single product. When you buy something, like televisions or home theater, you should know and prepared for additional expense such as sales tax, shipping charges, or if the product will need some accessories to work perfectly (believe me, some products are like that). A good way to quickly reflect your total expense is to add an additional 20-25% to the product price.

  • Understand what those juicy ads really mean

Newspaper and other media ads can be a real tease to anyone. Discount, half-priced products, bonus items, etc is what they would always offer to bring more consumer. You should be wary with these. Not all discount prices are really discount price, and it might be that discounted price is the real price. They might just do a nice wrap on the package, raised the price up four times and easily put a 75% discount on the product. And half priced products? Bonus items? Come on. Those product must be broken or kind of out-dated. Lol. No, seriously guys. This is where the product information research comes in handy. You would know the normal price of a product and how other people say about the product and its feature.

  • Learn the Return Policies and Warranties

Be sure to get an explanation about the return policy, though it’s usually printed on the back of the sale receipt (and if its not there, ask). Because if you’re in a condition of returning a product because its not working properly, some retailers might sacked you up with a 10-15% restocking fee. Or even worse, if you are out of the return policy guidelines by only one day, they won’t accept the product back.
