Sitemeter IE Crashing Issue, Resolved!
Heard it from twitter as the blog owners aflutter others wondering why their sites can’t be viewed at the moment. It seems that the commonality between them all is that the ‘are running Sitemeter stats on their blogs and that they only seem to crash when viewed with IE6 and IE7.
Darren of Problogger initiated to get clarification from Sitemeter on the problem. He stated that until the issue fixed, the best way to have your blog viewed by IE readers is removing the Sitemeter code from the site or blog. It will make your site ’s stats disrupted for a while until it fixed.
It’s Solved!
A pretty quick respond I must admit. The same day, Sitemeter officially announced the IE compatibility issue with their SiteMeter tracking code has been solved. It’s stated that the problem was related to some work they were doing on the backend system for our upcoming website launch. Here’s the identified and resolved two separate but related issues:
1. IE Users viewing pages - The error occured when the SiteMeter tag was not a direct child of the body tag (e.g. if the tag was within a table or div). Recent changes we made created a failure for visitors viewing sites using Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 6.
2. Accessing SiteMeter and Stats - Individuals trying to access or view their SiteMeter stats by clicking on their SiteMeter logo/icons were unable to gain access. This again appears to have affected only individuals using IE7 and IE6.
This official vendor respond was posted Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 at 3:14 pm. So for all of you who removed the SiteMeter code from your pages, just be assured that the problem has been resolved.
