Credit Counseling

Got headache with debt? Find out when its time to get help or find debt relief on your own. How to pick a credit counseling agency, and questions you need to ask.

Ask questions before you dealing or sign up for anything.

Don’t ever meet with a counselor until you find out exactly which will you need to entail. Generally a counselor will discuss with you and go over your short and long term goals. Come prepared with pay stubs, bills, anything that will help the counselor get a clear picture of your financial traffic. If she or he suggests you enter a debt management plan, you’ll be charged a fee that will be reduced from your bill payments. The agency will discuss it with creditors on your behalf and mostly able to lower interest payments, minimize or eliminate late fees and out of limit charges. And then you make one payment to that credit counseling service and they in turn pay all your creditors.

Some tips negotiating with creditors

make a specific plan in mind before you get dialing on. Propose a payment plan you may live with and ask the representative to minimize your interest charges. If you are getting nowhere with the someone on the phone, ask him or her that you need to speak with her manager. Be polite but firm. Explain your conditions and the steps that you will choose to settle your debt. Try to minimize the interest payment as much as possible, along with late fees and out of the limit charges. Don’t forget, it’s in their best interest to come to terms with you and start getting paid.
